My Everyday carry

Updated: Aug 9, 2022

Check out the Must have tools in my photography EDC!

In all aspects of photography a camera is the main tool and along with a memory card or film is all you need to start taking photos, but with most of us photographers the more we shoot, the more accessories and equipment we add to our kit.

Over the year as a professional photographer, I have added many tools, accessories and gadgets to my camera bag that are extremely useful in those occasions the don't always go to plan, so I decided I would put them all together in my everyday carry (EDC) kit, to be carried at all times! The first item on the list is the carry case which is with me on every photography outing or shoot!

• Tog Ldn Gorilla Black Tog Belt Bag - Link

To carry the kit I use this small bag made by Tog Ldn, I have a lot of accessories from this supplier so I can't recommend them enough. The bag is mid-sized with pockets inside for batteries as well as a zipped compartment, and plenty of room for my kit plus phone! Belt loops on the back mean I can wear it around my waist, handheld without the belt or clip it to something else with a carabiner.

• Spare Camera Batteries

I have a lot of camera batteries, and one of the bonuses of the tog belt bag is the small pockets inside that fit 4 batteries in perfectly. I use a few different brands for my batteries that I know and trust these include Fujifilm's own batteries, Hahnel, Patona and Ansmann.

• Rechargeable AA Batteries

Again like the camera batteries I have more than I need in AA batteries, but I always carry six in my EDC bag, I use mainly Eneloop Pro rechargeable AA batteries, and Amazons own AA high capacity batteries. I would say these are probably the best choice available for photography equipment, because they are high energy, and are advertised as being able to retain most of their charge after 6 months, I carry 6 spares incase the four in the flash go as well as the transmitter which requires two batteries.

• Lenspen & Cleaning Cloth

Tucked in the bottom of the bag is a lens pen which is used for cleaning most glass items in my kit, but mainly the lenses and the filters, I also have a large microfibre cleaning cloth which is also used for cleaning equipment.

• Sandisk USB-C Flash Drive

This Sandisk Drive is a handy device to have around, as it doesn’t take up much space in the bag and can help out with backing-up or transferring files. The USB-C connection also makes it compatible with my phone and tablet.

• Pocket Swiss Army Knife

The Swiss Army Knife is one of my most used accessories, with a small blade and saw in there, screwdrivers, even a toothpick and more, it has been used in many a situation from tightening light stands when on location to alterations on models clothing!

• Tripod Mount Plate

Another spare accessory I always carry is a mounting plate for my tripod, as I previously turned up to a shoot with a tripod and camera but no mounting plate, which meant I couldn't use the tripod!

• Sensor Swab

I always carry a sensor swab in my EDC just in case there is a sticky mark on my sensor that the rocket blower can't remove!

• 3 in 1 Photography Card Set

The Tog Ldn Pouch has a zipped internal pocket which is where this 3 in 1 card stays until needed, they are perfect pocket size with a wrist strap as well for other uses, they are also water-resistant which helps massively when I am shooting on location. The set includes an 18% Neutral Grey / Gray Card white balance card set, 90% reflectance white card and black card.

• Tog Ldn 'The Mini Tog Purse'

Another accessory from Tog Ldn I use is their mini tog purse, a small memory card case with space for a battery, four SD Cards, two CF Cards (although I use the CF slots for four extra SD Cards!|) and a handy business card slot! Link

• Memory Cards

I Have 12 memory cards in total when shooting I use two in the camera and carry six spares in my

Mini tog purse with two left in my main bag just in case of any damages or corruptions. I use three brands of SD cards; Lexar, Sandisk and Prograde but the majority of my cards are Lexar Professional 2000x and Progrades V90 cards because of there fast read and write speeds!

• SanDisk Extreme PRO 2TB Portable SSD

This small but robust SSD stay with me at all times, I use it to back images up to during and after a shoot, to show my portfolio and to keep my photographic collection. It is small enough to fit in my EDC bag as well as being waterproof and dustproof as well as being lightning quick! IMO this SSD is hands-down one of the best portable drives on the market, with its 2TB version is particularly attractive compared to the other similar models. Some brilliant performance numbers, good price and great qualities make this drive my favourite among its rivals.

Other Accessories in my EDC:

• Zippo Lighter with Gorilla Tape

• Elastic Bands

• Small Carabiner Clips

• 1/4" Thread Screw with D-ring

• Blu-tack

• Camera Spares

• Spare Cash in Zipped Pocket

• Heavy thread or Paracord

• Miniature Sewing kit

• A Pen
